Could be good

hey man, you have some clean sounds but not enough variation. When your snares go double time you should definately add in more percussion or at least some effects. It sounds like the basic drums and bassline to a good song but by themselves cant really hold much attention.
keep em coming

unique

definately a good listen, very strange mix of percussion and melody, i like the experimental feel. Its very professionally done, sounds like a lot of effort has been put into this one. the percussion is really random but always keeps pace and stays tight, really solid. Keep em coming

Thanks KaiSun, I got the percussion from all manner of strange and wonderful VST's. Can't name them off hand....
Thanks for listening! I listened to your new track the other day but I got distracted and couldn't review it..Time to set things right.

Oh sweet man

that acid line is deadly, kick ass fx to follow as well man, right on. i like the hat u bring in to pick the rhythm up, i've always loved a long open hat on the off beat, maybe you could open it up for a few bars get a disco beat going (someone called it that once). really interesting interludes with the sounds and fx, good soundscape going. Ok, u got me psyched to get the beats flowing again.
Speak to u soon

dj-padman1 responds:

Thanks Kaisun, always a pleasure. I'm glad some of the fx appealed to you, big noises are cool! Disco beat? Is that with a ride cymbal over the kick or something? you'll need to tell me about that one some other time.
Yeah, man, I want to see you producing like a madman! We all know you're a breaks machine, now its time to crank it up!

good choice of sounds

i like the organic pads vs the digital bleeps. Maybe a different section would have been cool, instead of bringing sounds in and out maybe start a new line with a new chord progression and then go back. that might be too much for a chilled out ambient piece though.
the soft echoey noise pad that pans in is really nice, i could listen to that for hours.
Take it easy man, hope to see some music come out of your week off.

dj-padman1 responds:

thanks man, and I expect 2 tracks a day emanating from the underground Kaisun music labs! Or else....

tieeeght

tight as man, I noticed the kick has a bit of extra something done to it at times, like a distorted bass punch, that sounded wicked and added heaps of form to the drum line. some nice crazy fx too, i love hearing really overworked vocal samples in any genre of music. keep the madness ensuing

dj-padman1 responds:

Drenched that kick with overdrive dude, I think I just about kept it under control! Glad you liked it, if you watch the series Stargate, you might recognise the samples. Keep up your righteous musical quest my brother.

right on man

dark as fuck this one is. i really like how i can hear each drum hit of each drum, thats so hard to do. its a hectic song. One thing i would have loved more of are the sounds at the very beginning, up to the 10 sec mark, the bass that comes in is cool but the sounds would make the song stand out a whole lot. I like it
Cheers

dj-padman1 responds:

Kaisun, good to hear from you again. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this whole drum and/or bass thing. I must look into your idea more closely, interesting..!
Thanks again mate.

good stuff as always

hey hey your doowntempo stuff is really good man. You have a good grasp of the ambient beats and which sounds god well in a loop. I dont know how much you concern yourself with the melody, but if you threw in a few key changes this song would sound really complete. just an idea.
top notch

dj-padman1 responds:

Key changes, thats a damn good idea, guess I wanted to keep it simple. That would be nice though, no doubt about it. Hmm..here's hoping you've got some new tracks up!

keep building

I can relate to really getting inspired to make music exactly like a gig i was just at, but it sounds a bit like once that inspiration left you you couldn't find any of your own which is what happens to me. the build up doesn't really provide the drop it should. needs a bigger kick and a deep crunchy bass next to it cause it sounds like the upper half to a really good song.
good luck

sweet

hey man, just checked out the acapellas, thats awesome. Ive been running their song through a bandpass filter to just get the vocals but this makes it a whole lot easier, and its legal. When was this comp you were talking about? I think you should enter every comp you get the chance to as a rule, u got nothing to lose.
Nice beat in this one, it would fit nicely on one of their albums, the hats and hi end percussion are water tight. good stuff

driftwood is my favourite type of wood

i do like the lfo work on the pads, they givesomething to focus on in the song cause ambient stuff is usually very background sounding. I thought i heard an answering machine in there somewhere too. Actually I reckon a spoken vocal backing might work ok, like a lofi recorded message maybe, might be a bit cliche.
you could give the title a bit more impact by saying its driftwood from a devastating plane crash with several fatalities but you might need to change the genre accordingly.
and are you doing mech 4001? ive got a few cds for u that u might be into. let us know. cya

dj-padman1 responds:

hey dude, thanks for the review, and those cd's were seriously slamming!

you know the vocal backing is a great idea, I've gotta try that. I guess it usually does the business in an ambient track.

haha..i like your suggestion for the title! It would probably belong in the ABC news genre then...nobody would watch it :)
