Funked up

Man, this is a really great listen. I haven't been to this page for ages but this has got me listening again.
Is the guitar sampled? cause the chords are great. Some of the synths are a bit cheesy but overall the song travels nicely.
Love the disco strings that make an appearance too. The bass should lead into something more at the end, it leaves you hanging too much
Nice work.

wolf-tech responds:

Why thank kind sir. I made the guitar on the computer. Sadly i can't play guitar like that. I kinda thought the synths were a bit cheesy but the happy music fans will like it, and the bass leaving you hanging..... well i like to leave listeners hanging sometimes cuz i'm cool like that. thanks for the rev. ttyl

Oh this is cool

Really nice song, awesome bass again. I think the xylophone really makes it stand out as something different, with the usual instruments supporting perfectly.
I didn't see the dnb drums coming in but when they did I could see they were always meant to. The melody is really solid but the production is top notch as well, sounds like something from a good drum n bass compilation. I like it

sorohanro responds:

i kind of started that from the middle :p
so the dnb was from start, then i tought, well that need an introduction...something
so, thanx for the review and glad you like it

Great stuff

Really smooth, but still with a really catchy edge. Is this recorded live or through a computer? Im not really up to scratch with my knowledge of funk but this sounds pretty jazzy. I like how the bassline is just funky, but the keyboard chords have a different mood, as does the guitar, which fills the song out not just in the technical sound but in the feel as well. Ill check out some more of your stuff

sorohanro responds:

well, first, thanx
for me, funk is that music started by James Brown and go to Jamiroqai and Nils Landgren Funk Unit...
that electronic funk that i don't understand have nothing to do with real funk... i think
as for "how i did it" is with some drum loops and some real guitars(by me , the trumpet player...he he)
i was way too lazy to record trumpets, so everything else is... keyboard (i would say Reason...but not free publicity)
thanx again for reviewing my stuff

liking the synth lines

Hey DSMagnum,
I thought the melody in this was solid, Love synth chords played like that. It would be cool if there were some fx, either in the background or on some oof the instruments, just to add some extra atmosphere.
Nice song.

DSMagnum responds:

Maybe I could've used some pads? That would've given it more of an etheral feel. I should try that in my next song.

Thanks for the review. :)

Geez man,

I cant imagine your fitting much else into your days, these tracks sound like they'd take a mortal weeks to make. I like how youve nurtured your randomness into something great, this is so diverse. Im considering getting ableton man, I dont know how to get sounds anything like this in reason. your an ambassador for live.
keep em coming

dj-padman1 responds:

You'd love Live man. With reason its a bit difficult (impossible?) to really mess with audio within the program. live makes it a snap.
Catch ya.

divercity

Hey padman, whats been happening. good to see the tunes flowing freely. Haven't been round here for a while, you've been working hard in the holidays.
Love the whole intro and beginning section. Im always impressed by the sound and drum choices.
The song changes up a lot but I thought the melody was a bit scattered towards the end, like the pads and lead were trying to go in different directions? definately a chem. bros. feel in there, your on the right track.
Ill do my best to keep up the reviews, Ive got a new song or two to put up too.
BTW, check out alchemy, an SBS radio station. their website is asking for producers to submit stuff. Give them what they want, they're gagging for it.

dj-padman1 responds:

cheers bigears. long time no see. Killer track by the way, your latest. Anyone reading this I encourage you to check it out.
Thanks for your input. Did I have pads in the end? man, I cant remember now, I'll have to revisit that one.
SBS? That could be the ticket! We should both launch an all out blitz on them.
Thanks for the lead KaiSun.

full of awesomeness

man, i loved your choices of synths in this one and your melodies were great. Im a little skint on suggestions nowadays, except send more stuff into fbi, you'll get into the dnb program for sure with these gems, id ont know if they have a trance or straight dance prog but if they do you'll be a contender.
I havent been able to keep up with your producing, but if you read this im about to review the rest of what ive missed so far.
One thing i noticed was the heavy portamento (thats reason speak, i dont know what ableton calls it but), the pitch drag thing on the main synth. That sounds sweet with the longer notes but i turn it off with the shorter ones so its not as messy, if u know what i mean. anyways, keep em coming

dj-padman1 responds:

Thats a really nice idea about the portamento. I guess I get a little bit overexcited. You're right, it turns into a bit of a mess if you've got groups of 16th notes trying to slide to one another.
I must redouble my FBI efforts a bit, I think their dance segment is after midnight or something! I might have to look for an alternative outlet.
Nice to have you drop a comment by way mate, always appreciated.

ng loves the cheese

nicely made song as always, a bit cheesy for me but im sure its got plenty of worshippers here. Just had to mention the snare rush build up, would sound sweet in a warehouse somewhere amongst that crowd.

dj-padman1 responds:

the snare is acutally 2 snares at once, panned to the extremes, and then they cross gradually halfway in. Yep, I'm pulling out all the tricks these days ;)

Thanks for stopping by.

fuckin cool

one of my favourites man. I think its the slightly detuned piano or something, but its awesome. Personally, i reckon you could have just left it with the instruments used in the beginning, but it all works. love it.

dj-padman1 responds:

you know, I wanted to do that. Have the first part be basically the entire track. But I thought people would grill me.
I got a little bit of inspiration from Mr Scruff (Scuff?) on the cd you lent me. Taking it back to the old school.

give the people your dnb

youve got a lot of fans of your fast stuff man, keep feeding the masses. this one was definately hectic, a little less ordered than the rest. I felt the energy you were going for though. I liked the pace the softish drum loop had, more jumpy than punchy, that was cool. some crazy synths in there too, i couldnt keep up with the warping.
btw, did i read u got 3 awards in a week? is that 3 places out of the top 5? Damn

dj-padman1 responds:

thanks man, you have to feed the people as well. They're ravenous beasts I tell ya.
Disorderly as always, I know! I wish I could produce them as tightly as you.
Hope to hear some fresh material from Kaisun in the very near future.

Awards are random, its just luck!
